food donations

South Arkansas College’s basketball teams used their home court for more than competition on November 20, turning the evening into an opportunity to give back to the community. During the Stars’ games, student-athletes organized a collection drive for nonperishable food items to benefit a local food pantry, strengthening the college’s ongoing commitment to service and community partnership.

Fans, students, employees, and community members contributed generously, filling collection bins with canned goods and shelf-stable items that will directly support families in need throughout the region. In addition to food donations, cash contributions were accepted to support the Stars Market, SouthArk’s on-campus pantry that provides free food, hygiene items, and basic necessities to students facing food insecurity.

“Our student-athletes understand that representing SouthArk means more than performing on the court,” said athletic director Dr. Jenny Sanders, noting how proud the college is of the teamwork and compassion on display. “Their leadership in serving our community reflects the values we prioritize in SouthArk Athletics. It is important that the athletic department invest in the community that pours so much into us, especially during this season of Thanksgiving.”

The event marked another step in the Stars’ ongoing service initiatives, which include volunteer efforts, campus engagement, and outreach to local organizations. SouthArk Athletics plans to continue incorporating community service into athletic events throughout the year.
